Peter and Beverly MacGregor have been cleaning carpets since 1981. In that time, we have tried every carpet cleaning technique and system that has come along through the years. We have always maintained that truck-mounted steam cleaning is the ONLY carpet and upholstery cleaning system that is capable of thoroughly cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting your carpets and upholstery. Other methods, including rental machines, simply are not up to the task. To fully extract soiling and pollutants, you need inject water into the fibres at high pressure and high temperature, and then extract it out by suction. This is why our trucks are equipped with steam-cleaning machines, and why they're the only machines we would use or recommend. For tile and grout cleaning, we use this same system in conjunction with dry-steam techniques.
The truth is that regular vacuuming can only remove dry soil and debris from carpeting and upholstery. It will always leave behind oils, deep debris in higher-pile carpeting, fine particulates, natural soiling, and wear caused by certain types of footwear, as well as vapour-based contaminates produced by activities like cooking. Left unattended to, these residuals will wear your carpet and upholstery (and tiling), dulling them and fading their natural lustre. As these residual materials build up, they become ever more difficult to remove. Regular deep cleaning slows or reverses this process and allows you to enjoy your flooring and upholsteries year after year, in turn giving you the peace of mind that your home is fresh and clean. Additionally, this regular cleaning can help improve the air quality in your home by removing, pet and human hair, dust mites, skin particulates, and other allergens that can embed and entangle in your home's carpets and upholstery fibres.
Pre-Inspection: We will evaluate your flooring or upholstery's needs. Every carpet, tile, and fibre material must be treated differently. We will administer the best method for cleaning your surfaces. You will know up front what we can and can't do so there are no surprises. During our initial walkthrough, we invite you to point out particular problem areas that you feel require extra attention.
Moving Furniture: As a general rule, we don't move furniture unless it is light and not fragile. Items like small tables or floor lamps will be moved, cleaned underneath, and then replaced. Larger items like couches will often be tipped in order to clean underneath them. We will only move items like beds, large cabinets and dressers, etcetera, with your direct assistance; otherwise, these will be cleaned around. Keep in mind that any piece of furnishing that has a flat bottom is usually better left in place as cleaning underneath will leave moisture that will be trapped when the item is replaced. If you are wanting as much surface area cleaned as possible, we recommend moving such items out of the space for cleaning, and placing them back after the carpets have dried.
Pre-Treatment: We treat spots and stains as necessary and apply a variety of eco-friendly cleaning solutions, all of which are safe for humans and pets alike. In rare cases, special solutions may be required to remove a particularly stubborn stain. If this is the case, we will have a conversation about its use and requirements (such as covering until dry).
Cleaning: We use truck-mounted Prochem equipment, providing 250ºC water at high pressure, ensuring the deepest, most thorough cleaning possible. Our machines are about as loud as a large generator. For this reason, our earliest starting time is 9:00AM in order to respect your neighbours. We will use corner guards and drop-cloths to protect your floors and walls from any possible friction damage from our hoses. Two hoses will enter your home (one for water in and one for suction out); this requires the door of entry to be open several inches, so we recommend placing pets in a closed room or garage while we are cleaning, unless they are particularly well-behaved, in order to prevent them running off or getting in the way. We will generally seek your attention at some point during the job so you can see the difference between clean and dirty as we progress. In the event that a topical disinfectant or deodorizer is required (due to pet stains for example), we will let you know where these have been applied (these are all eco/pet/human friendly). Where needed, we will deploy portable dryers to help quicken the drying process for you.
Post-Inspection: Once the project is completed, we re-inspect your flooring and/or upholstery with you to ensure that all the work done is to your satisfaction.
Protect & Groom: When necessary we will place plastic tabs or wax paper under furniture legs to protect them during the drying process. We will also groom carpets for a clean inviting look, free of footprints and patterns caused by our wands (the same V-pattern you get with vacuum cleaning). Our objective is to leave your flooring clean and fresh, with no evidence we were even there.
We always appreciate some simple preparation for our visit. The following steps help us get in and out as quickly as possible, allowing you to get back to your day:
